What the AI looks for in Gong Stands
- Size rating
- The stand's rated maximum gong diameter must be at least your gong's diameter An undersized frame lets the gong touch the uprights or tips the stand.
- Weight capacity
- Rated weight must cover the gong; large gongs are heavy An overloaded crossbar bends or the base tips.
- Suspension
- Hooks with cord or rope so the gong hangs free A rigidly mounted gong chokes its sustain.
- Base
- Wide feet or a weighted base; casters only if they lock Gongs swing when struck and shift the center of gravity.
