How to find the right Air Gun Mounts AI guide
Written by an AI model from its trained knowledge.
What the AI looks for in Air Gun Mounts
- Dovetail width
- Match 11mm or 3/8 inch dovetail exactly. Picatinny mounts need a Picatinny or Weaver rail. Clamps for the wrong dovetail either will not close or will not grip.
- Recoil stop
- On spring-piston rifles, use a mount with a stop pin that drops into the receiver's stop hole, or add a separate scope stop. Springer recoil walks clamp-only mounts rearward and shifts zero.
- Ring diameter and height
- Ring diameter must equal the scope tube size. Height must clear the objective bell and any magazine or loading port. Wrong height blocks loading or makes the scope touch the barrel or receiver.
- Droop compensation
- Consider droop-compensating or adjustable mounts if your break-barrel needs most of the scope's elevation just to zero. Many break-barrels have barrel droop. Running a scope near its elevation limit hurts accuracy and can damage some erectors.
- One-piece vs two-piece
- One-piece mounts suit heavy-recoiling springers and keep the rings aligned. Two-piece mounts suit short dovetails and need careful alignment. Misaligned rings stress the scope tube.
Brands that matter
- UTG (Leapers): Budget-to-mid dovetail and Picatinny rings in many heights.
- Hawke: Airgun mounts including adjustable droop-compensating models.
- Sportsmatch: Airgun-focused mounts with stop-pin options.
- BKL: Dovetail mounts known for springer use.
- Vortex: Picatinny rings for PCPs and railed airguns.
What to avoid
- Rings listed as 'universal' with no dovetail size stated.
- Thin single-screw clamps on magnum springers.
- Picatinny-only rings for a dovetail receiver unless you are also fitting an adapter rail.
Questions
Can I use firearm scope rings on an airgun?
Yes, if the gun has a Picatinny/Weaver rail. For springers, the scope and rings should still be rated for two-way recoil.
