How to find the right Xbox One Interactive Gaming Figures AI guide

What the AI looks for in Xbox One Interactive Gaming Figures

Franchise match: Figures only work with games from their own franchise: Skylanders with Skylanders, Disney Infinity with Disney Infinity, LEGO Dimensions with LEGO Dimensions. The figures look similar on the shelf, but there is no cross-franchise compatibility.
Portal or base for your console: Get the starter pack, which includes the game and the portal or toy pad, for the Xbox One version. Figures do nothing without the franchise's reader base and a matching game.
Game version compatibility: Check that each figure's wave or series works with the game you own. For example, Disney Infinity 1.0 figures work in later editions, but newer figures do not work in 1.0. Backward compatibility mostly runs one way, so newer figures can fail in older games.
Online-dependent features: Assume online features and servers may no longer work for these discontinued lines. Toys-to-life games are discontinued, and some services such as Disney Infinity's online features have been shut down.

Activision (Skylanders): The largest toys-to-life library, with portals and figures across several game entries.
Disney Interactive (Disney Infinity): Disney, Marvel and Star Wars figures across three editions. The line is discontinued.
LEGO / Warner Bros. (LEGO Dimensions): Buildable LEGO figures that use a toy pad. Expansion packs unlock levels and characters.

Buying loose figures before you own the matching game and portal
Nintendo amiibo, which do not work on Xbox
Starter packs listed for a different console unless you confirm the portal works on Xbox One
Mixing figures from different franchises and expecting them to work

Generally the figures carry over within the same franchise, but the game disc and portal or toy pad must be the Xbox One version.
